Since its inception, the Cellini line went unnoticed until recently as part of Rolex’s portfolio. Rolex began marketing the Cellini in the 1960s as a line of elegant dress watches specifically designed for the brand.

Various Designs To Choose From

The Rolex Cellini was a one-stop-shop for the company’s dress watches, unlike the Daytona and the Datejust. As a result of the lack of a singular aesthetic, many designs were produced.

Inspired by vintage, cushion-shaped timepieces, the Rolex Cellini’s bold, angular designs appeared in the 1960s (such as King Midas) and the 1970s (like Cellini Danaos).

Throughout the following decades, various designs were inspired by Rolex’s early years. Around this time, more minor cases like those of the Cestello and Cellini Classic appeared on guitars like these.

Rolex also brought back the unconventional Rolex Cellini Prince in the new millennium. The rectangular Oyster watch was a modern interpretation of the 1928 design, which stood out among the brand’s Oyster watches. Click here to understand Rolex cellini better.

These alterations to the Rolex Cellini’s design, while excellently executed, resulted in a bewildering array of variations. Rolex eventually discontinued it because it was out of step with the rest of their collections.
